Fusion 360 Gallery Dataset
Provider:Autodesk AI Lab
Autodesk's official CAD research dataset: ~20k real user designs yield assembly, reconstruction and segmentation subsets with joints and per-face labels; research use only.
At a glance
- Readiness
- L2 · Semantic & material ready
- Rationale
- The assembly subset carries assembly hierarchy, joint connectivity, contact surfaces and hole information and can drive kinematics directly; the segmentation subset labels every face by modelling operation. Mass, material, friction and actuator parameters are absent, so it cannot be fed straight into a rigid-body solver — hence L2 rather than L3.
- Scale
- Derived from roughly 20,000 real user designs into three subsets: Assembly with 8,251 assemblies / 154,468 parts (~2.8 GB); Reconstruction with 8,625 sketch-and-extrude sequences (~2.0 GB); Segmentation with 35,680 parts (~3.1 GB). An extended STEP collection of 42,912 files (483 MB) is also provided. (Subset sizes come from the download table in the official Autodesk AI Lab repository README (versions j1.0.0 / r1.0.1 / s2.0.1); the ~20,000 designs figure is stated in the repository and the companion paper (ACM TOG 2021). The Assembly-Joint subset is listed separately with 32,148 joints / 23,029 parts and uses a different counting basis from the Assembly subset — do not conflate them. Checked 2026-10-26.)
- License
- Research use only — Governed by Autodesk's own dataset license, not a Creative Commons licence: non-commercial research use only; the dataset may not be redistributed in its entirety (direct others to the official repository instead); subsets or modified sets may be redistributed only if clearly labelled as such, restricted to non-commercial research downstream, and carrying the original notices; re-associating any model with its creator or an identifiable individual is explicitly prohibited. Why it is listed
Most simulation-ready catalogues offer finished geometry and stop there. This one publishes *how the geometry was made*: the parametric construction history of roughly twenty thousand designs that real Fusion 360 users uploaded to the public Autodesk Online Gallery. For anyone training models on CAD — or building a design copilot — that construction sequence is the scarce part, and there is no equivalent open corpus of B-rep solids at this scale.
Readiness assessment
The Assembly subset is the reason to come here: 8,251 multi-part assemblies with hierarchy, joint connectivity, contact surfaces and holes, which is enough to drive kinematics and to reason about how parts mate. The Segmentation subset labels every face by the operation that produced it (extrude side, extrude end, cut side, fillet, chamfer, revolve), giving semantic structure on top of raw B-rep. That combination justifies L2.
What is missing matters just as much: no mass, no material assignment, no friction, no actuator limits. You cannot drop these models into a rigid-body solver and expect a meaningful simulation without supplying that data yourself.
Practical notes
Pick the subset before downloading — the joint subset counts 32,148 joints against a different part basis than the main assembly subset, so mixing the two statistics produces wrong numbers. The extended STEP collection (42,912 files) is the fastest route if you want geometry without the JSON tooling. Everything is pre-normalised: the longest bounding-box dimension is scaled to two units and centred at the origin, so no manual centring is needed.
Cite the relevant paper for whichever subset you use (JoinABLe for assemblies, Fusion 360 Gallery for reconstruction, BRepNet for segmentation). And read the license before any commercial work touches this data — it is research-only, and that restriction propagates to your employer.
