Rationale
Component entries provide schematic symbols, PCB footprints and 3D models (STEP among them), whose 3D geometry yields extractable mass and collision shells, hence L1; the models are exterior geometry and pad definitions with no material parameters for EM, thermal or contact-mechanics simulation, and since some entries are user-uploaded or produced on request, quality varies across the library.
Scale
The official homepage states 1.1M parts and 10M assets in the library, with 391K+ products built using its parts; it covers 15+ PCB design formats including Altium, Cadence Allegro, CircuitStudio, CR-5000/CR-8000, DesignSpark, DipTrace, EAGLE, Easy-PC, eCADSTAR, KiCad, OrCAD, PADS, PCAD, Proteus, Pulsonix and TARGET 3001. (The 1.1M / 10M / 391K figures and the list of 15+ PCB design formats are taken verbatim from the statistics block on the SnapMagic Search homepage; the official meaning of each figure (parts in the library, assets, products built with those parts) is reported as published and the numbers are not merged or extrapolated. Checked 2026-11-01.)
License
Proprietary but free — Symbols, footprints and 3D models are free for design; the intellectual property belongs to the respective component vendors and uploaders, and the assets may not be redistributed — terms differ per vendor, so check each one. Models are largely generated to standards such as IEEE-315 and IPC-7351B, and the platform provides automated verification reports; user-uploaded and on-request entries are not guaranteed accurate, so validate against the official datasheets before release.

Why it is listed

SnapMagic Search — formerly SnapEDA — is the cross-vendor layer that most electronics work depends on. Where a vendor publishes only its own parts, this library aggregates symbols, footprints and 3D models from hundreds of manufacturers, and it is the delivery vehicle behind the Amphenol and Molex entries in this section. It is listed as a platform rather than a manufacturer, so the distinction from the mechanical CAD catalogues (CADENAS, TraceParts, GrabCAD) is worth keeping in view: this one is electronic-design data.

Readiness assessment

Per component you get a schematic symbol, a PCB footprint and a 3D model. The 3D models give rigid-body geometry with extractable mass and collision shells — that is L1 for the mechanical side of a board-level assembly. Two limits are inherent: the models carry no material parameters for EM, thermal or contact-mechanics simulation, and the library mixes vendor-curated parts with user uploads and on-request generations, so accuracy is not uniform across it.

Practical notes

Search by part number, open the part page, and download the footprint and symbol for your tool from the E-CAD model section, then take the 3D model from the 3D tab. Fifteen-plus PCB formats are supported, from Altium and Cadence Allegro through KiCad and OrCAD to the Zuken and TARGET lines. If a part is missing, the platform offers an on-request service with delivery stated as under one business day, and it also supports private libraries, batch export and converting your own library into other formats. For anything that will be released, verify the footprint against the datasheet and treat the vendor's own model as the authority.
