Festo CAD (Design Tool 3D)
Provider:Festo
Festo Design Tool 3D exports native CAD assemblies of cylinders and accessories (STEP / IGES / multiple native CAD formats) with mates and mass properties — L1, not redistributable.
At a glance
- Readiness
- L1 · Rigid-body ready
- Rationale
- Native CAD assemblies of pneumatic and electric automation components with extractable mass properties and mounting mates; no joint drive parameters, friction or controller models, and redistribution is not permitted — hence L1.
- Scale
- Configurable assemblies across cylinder series DSBC / DSNU / ADN / ADVC / AEVC / DFM / DGSL / DRRD / DRVS plus matching accessories; exports to native AutoCAD / Inventor / CATIA V5 / ProENGINEER / NX / Solid Edge / SolidWorks formats plus neutral STEP and IGES. (Series list and CAD interface list from Festo's official Design Tool 3D product page; Festo does not publish a total model count, so coverage is stated by series and interface. Checked 2026-10-25.)
- License
- Proprietary but free — Models are free but intended for selecting, configuring and purchasing Festo products; a single order code is generated for direct ordering. Redistribution as a general parts library or use in non-Festo deliverables is prohibited. Downloading CAD data requires a registered Festo account; the FDT 3D online edition (festo.com/FDT-3D-online) needs no installation.

Why it is listed
Festo is one of the most common automation brands in factory workcells, and its Design Tool 3D is the official route to accurate geometry for cylinders, valves and handling modules rather than approximate stand-ins.
Readiness assessment
The tool outputs native CAD for AutoCAD, Inventor, CATIA V5, ProENGINEER, NX, Solid Edge and SolidWorks, plus neutral STEP and IGES. Because native formats preserve CAD constraints and mates, the assembly drops into a machine design with its mounting relationships intact, and mass properties are extractable — that puts it at L1. It stops there: drive parameters, friction and controller behaviour are not part of the asset.
Practical notes
Configure the module in FDT 3D, take the generated order code, and keep the PDF assembly drawing and parts list for traceability. The online edition runs in a browser with no plug-in; the offline edition and the desktop catalog tools (PARTdataManager, Quick Search Plus) are alternatives when you need local access.
Note the overlap with the broader CADENAS PARTcommunity entry in this collection: Festo catalogs are also distributed through PARTcommunity, whereas FDT 3D is Festo's own configurator and produces orderable combined assemblies rather than single catalog parts. Use FDT 3D when you need a configured assembly and an order code.
