Expanding RCWA Capabilities with Advanced S-matrix Algorithms

This paper presents a reformulation of the scattering-matrix (S-matrix) approach specifically for layered photonic structures. The key innovation is defining the S-matrix as an intrinsic property of individual layers, decoupling it from neighboring interfaces. This separation preserves the numerical stability of conventional S-matrix methods while maintaining analytical description of electromagnetic propagation within each layer.
